Who we are
Realeety is a boutique production and creative studio founded and led by award-winning filmmaker, writer, and producer Lee Li
Led by Lee Li, the studio operates at the intersection of film production, development, and audience-facing strategy, working across screen projects, documentary, branded content, and campaign-based storytelling. Realeety supports filmmakers, artists, brands, and organisations from early concept through to production, release, and audience engagement.
Lee’s practice spans film, journalism, publishing, and marketing, forming a multidisciplinary approach that combines storytelling with production reality and strategic execution.
She is also a SEMrush-certified digital marketer and social media manager, bringing a structured, data-informed approach to audience development, campaign design, and digital distribution. This complements Realeety’s production work, particularly in projects requiring audience-facing strategy, discoverability, and campaign rollout.
This perspective shapes Realeety’s core methodology: every project is developed not only for its creative strength, but also for its feasibility, audience positioning, and real-world impact.
As a Chinese diaspora and transgender asylum seeker, Lee’s work is grounded in lived experience and focused on amplifying voices and perspectives often excluded from screen and media systems. Her storytelling engages with identity, migration, belonging, and visibility, with a focus on intimate, socially grounded narratives.
Her directorial debut, Fearlessli, supported by Day One, has been released on RNZ and Māori+. The film reflects her ongoing commitment to personal and community-driven storytelling that bridges lived experience with public discourse.
As a producer, she has collaborated with organisations including Auckland Airport, Gong Cha, Screen Auckland, and Rainbow Youth, delivering audience-facing campaigns and screen-based content across tightly managed budgets and development frameworks.
Her work has been recognised with the Judge’s Choice Award and the Female/Gender Diverse Filmmakers Award at the Day One Awards, and she is also a recipient of the NZ Youth Film Festival (NZYFF) award.
Previously, Lee worked as a writer for ScreenFit and served as Editor of Craccum Magazine, developing a practice rooted in both editorial and cinematic storytelling.
